WEST VIRGINIA
MEMORIAL DAY
PARADE

"Where Heroes Rest, Freedom Lives"

159th Annual Official West Virginia Memorial Day Parade

For nearly 160 years, Memorial Day has held a sacred place in the heart of Grafton, West Virginia. What began generations ago as a tribute to fallen heroes has grown into a tradition recognized nationwide as the longest continuous running Memorial Day parade in the country. In honor of that legacy, the West Virginia Legislature proudly designated Grafton’s parade as the Official Memorial Day Parade of West Virginia in 2016 — a distinction earned through unwavering devotion, remembrance and community pride.

Each year, participants line up at Grafton High School as the procession begins at Yates Avenue and Beech Street, winding its way across Memorial Bridge, through downtown and onward along a route rich with history and meaning. The parade’s final steps lead to the hallowed grounds of the Grafton National Cemetery, where gratitude and reverence come to rest.

While the parade continues to grow and evolve to ensure the safety of all who attend, its purpose remains unchanged: to honor the ultimate sacrifice of America’s fallen service members. Guided by a devoted team of volunteers with the West Virginia Memorial Day Committee, Grafton stands united — remembering, honoring and ensuring this cherished tradition lives on for generations to come.

We invite you to join us in Taylor County and become part of this living legacy, where remembrance is shared, gratitude is spoken aloud, and history continues to march forward together.
